Note:
-I married a pumpkin carving connoisseur.  Max takes these things so seriously, but claims it's because it's his first Halloween in three years.
-Max also tagged along with me and my dad to his first ever BYU football game. I think he enjoyed himself, minus the cougar fight song. He refused to sing along with that.
-Witches night out this year was another success!
-If you're not into really, really scary movies, (like me) anything black and white will do. Cape Fear, Twilight Zone episodes, Rear Window... some of our favorites this year.
-And I'm always amazed at how much we get into our murder mystery dinner parties. I almost convinced myself that I had actually had an affair with Al Capone in 1928.

And wish us luck as we throw our first (ever) Halloween party. Homemade root beer and trick-or-treat bags all thanks to Pinterest will be on the menu, (ps. remind me to tell you which gift bag not to recreate, because it's impossible to be that cute, and I wasted two boxes of brownies on it) - anddd no UVU dances for me this year, thank you very much.

And thank you, dear month of October, for always being so great. I'll be missing you these next 11 months, until we meet again.

witches night out.

For whatever reason, the nickname "witches" have stuck with us over the years, which is why witches night out at Gardner Village gives us an excellent excuse to say things like:
"Break your bones break your back, make your skin black as black!"*

This year included the best soup you will ever find, free cookies & cream fudge, Britney Spears, too much traffic and orange striped tights. The night "put us through the ringer" as Kylie would say, considering all the events like policemen in short shorts and witches galore -- but it was a perfect fall activity, if I do say so myself.

As for other Halloween outings: This week we'll be going to see the silent film Phantom of the Opera at the Organ Loft with our kindred spirits who lately seem to make Monday mornings okay with traditional movie nights on Sunday.

And I gotta say it: I really like the fall, but I like it this year especially.

i met clark kent.

We chased ghosts in a cemetery,
and wore our witches hats all day long.
I named my pumpkin Franklin,
and made orange frosting for orange cupcakes.
We read Ghoul with the Broom
on the floor at Barnes & Noble,
and then had a sleepover because scary movies still scare us at 21.
Halloween themed lunch,
Halloween themed dinner.
Surrounded by old friends who always know what you mean.
And yes, I met Clark Kent at Krispy Kremes.

So in the end it's safe to say that it was quite a Happy Halloween.

"channel into the witches"

the title to this post is more of an inside joke,
but saturday night we definitely "channeled into the witches."
every year, gardner village has a witches night out,
where literally hundreds and hundreds of women dress up
just to gallivant all around these cute little shops in this tiny village.

so last minute we decided to attend this event,
and after making 3 different stops in order to find witches hats,
(who would have thought those would be so hard to find??)
i have to say that i was pleasantly surprised.
dancing, costumes, fortune telling, caramel apples -
can any halloween activity get any better than that?

and as for our halloween plans this year --
we've considered going on a legitimate ghost tour, and maybe staying in an old motel where it is rumored serial killer ted bundy murdered one of his victims...
are we crazy?

halloween cupcakes

I could spend hours looking at Martha Stewart's website getting ideas for all sorts of Halloween treats, but the traditional graveyard cupcakes we usually make are always so fun and easy, that I still can't help but go to the store and get everything weeks in advance as soon as October rolls around.

And with Halloween only two weeks away, I'm still trying to get as many activities in as soon as possible (even with midterms -- which I should be studying for right now, but Martha Stewart takes precedence).

So far on the list: ghost tours, witches night out, corn mazes and scary movies -- any other fun ideas?
