will defend the silver lining.

Last night Kylie and I had a late Birthday celebration with lunch pails, sparklers, bubble gum and diet cokes. We sat in our usual spot and talked about what we usually do, like how life rarely ever goes according to plan. But something I can count on is friendship. She is one of the only people I can have a conversation with, without saying anything at all.

After hitting a bucket on the freeway the other day (never-ending road construction, thank you) I took my car in to get an estimate of how much it would cost to be repaired; the sweetest old man came out to take a look at it, and surprised me when he said, "For you, it's free!" Even when I insisted on paying him something, he refused. I went home and wrote the first thank you card I had in a while, and I felt so grateful I couldn't even find the right words I wanted to say.

And I'm sunburned. Sometimes I hate it when that happens because people like to tell you that you're red, but this time I don't mind because it means I had a summer day yesterday, and I don't have too many of those left.

So a combination of mosquito bites, early mornings and feeling blessed sums up most of this week. And even though it's almost the end of summer, I'm not that sad.
At least not when John Mayer comes on the radio.

the caramel apple on my doorstep.

To whoever left a caramel apple on my doorstep:

I normally don't cry (...okay, that's actually a lie...) but today I cried a lot. Anyone I spoke to between 4 and 5:30 PM can testify of that.

But when I opened the door this evening seconds after I heard the doorbell ring, no one was there -- but I saw the caramel apple. Which most notably came with a pink bow.

I don't know who you are, but consider yourself one of my best friends. Because whoever you are (whether you knew it or not) you just made my day. And provided my dinner. And made me so, so, so happy, because I knew my math class (and other such things) were no longer worth being sad about. So I am thankful. And grateful. And happy.

And feel very blessed.

Least Expecting It...

once upon a time, there was this boy.
and he was not always very nice to me.
(admittedly, sometimes i wasn't very nice to him either)

but then one day i was having a really, really bad day -
like the worst day of all days -
(kind of had to do with that goodbye i was talking about last time)
but this boy (the not so very nice boy) noticed.
and even though he didn't have to,
scratch that.
even though he probably didn't want to -
he took me to go get fix and mix frosties.
aka.
wonderfulness.

and that's my story. it's not fabulous, but that moment was.
i realized that the littlest, tiniest, minute things matter.
"your hair looks nice"
or
"would you want to go out to lunch on saturday?"

and those who may seem like the
last person in the world to care,
can make all the difference.

now i have a new friend.

hoping that's what a snapshot of my upcoming weekend will look like, too.
